Over the years, I’ve tried dozens of Mac apps. Most of them came and went, but a few have stuck with me because they genuinely make my workflow smoother.
These are the apps I can’t imagine working without today.
Alfred 5
This is the core of my setup. Alfred replaces Spotlight with something far more powerful, letting me launch apps, search the web, and even run custom workflows.
Espanso
A simple, free, open-source but powerful text expander. I use it to turn short codes into full sentences or snippets, which saves me hours every week.
PopClip
Whenever I select text, PopClip shows a small floating menu with quick actions. Copying, searching, and translating become almost instant.
Magnet
Magnet keeps my windows neatly arranged. With a few shortcuts, I can snap windows into place and keep my workspace organized.
PastePal
A clipboard manager that remembers everything I copy. Having a searchable clipboard history is a lifesaver when I need to retrieve something I copied hours ago.
Supercharge
This adds more control to my copy and paste workflow. It makes the whole process feel smoother and more efficient.
Shottr
The best screenshot tool I have ever used on a Mac. It is lightweight, fast, and packed with features that make screen capturing effortless.
AppCleaner
When I uninstall an app, I want it gone completely. AppCleaner removes all the leftover files so my Mac stays clean.
Battery Health 3
I use this to monitor my MacBook’s battery cycles and overall health. It is especially useful since I often work unplugged for long hours.
Ice
This app keeps my menu bar tidy. It helps me hide and organize icons so everything looks cleaner.
Dropover
A temporary shelf for files. I can drag and drop things onto it, then move them around later without cluttering my desktop.
LookAway
A small app that reminds me to take breaks for my eyes. It is surprisingly effective at keeping me from overstraining during long work sessions.
LocalSend
This has become my go-to file sharing tool. Unlike AirDrop, it works across all platforms, including Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
CheatSheet
Holding down the Command key instantly shows all available shortcuts for the app I’m in. It is a simple way to learn and use new shortcuts faster.
Amphetamine
This app prevents my Mac from going to sleep. I use it whenever I need the system awake for long downloads or background processes.
That is my toolkit. Small apps on their own, but together they completely transform how smooth and enjoyable my Mac feels.
If you are starting fresh, I recommend beginning with Alfred 5, Shottr, Magnet, and PastePal. Once you are comfortable, you can layer in the others to give your Mac even more superpowers.
